New Paper Sessions 2022

After a successful online edition last year, the New Paper Sessions are now back on campus! Leiden University will be hosting the fourth edition of the New Paper Sessions for economists on 17 June 2022 from 12:30-18:00.

This initiative by the Royal Dutch Economic Association KVS aims to create a platform where economists in the Netherlands can obtain valuable feedback on their research. Beginner researchers are particularly encouraged to apply.

This year there will be keynote lectures by Marcel Timmer (University of Groningen and CPB) and Albert Menkveld (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam). The New Paper Sessions will take place on the campus of Leiden University in the city center of The Hague.

Marcel Timmer is Professor of Economic Growth and Development at the University of Groningen, which he combines this with a position as deputy-director at the CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis. He has lead a major research program titled “Modelling Global Value Chains: a new framework to study trade, jobs and income inequality in an interdependent world”, for which he received the NWO Vici Innovation grant. Marcel will talk about how variation in evidence-generating processes leads to more uncertainty of estimated parameters.

Albert Menkveld is Professor of Finance at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Fellow at the Tinbergen Institute. Albert’s research agenda is focused on securities trading, liquidity, asset pricing, and financial econometrics. He has published in top-ranked journals such as Journal of Political Economy, the Journal of Finance, and the Review of Financial Studies. He is currently the best publishing Dutch economist according to Dutch economic policy journal ESB. In 2018 he received a five-year Vici grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). He is also a member of the Capital Market Committee of the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM).
