Focus Conference 2026
Transition Blues
The pension sector has officially been “in transition” for over a year. In reality, the transition to the new pension regime has been underway for much longer. Moreover, the 2028 deadline is approaching rapidly. The preparation, implementation and follow-up are taking longer than anticipated and require considerable effort from all parties involved. Pensioen Pro’s Focus Conference zooms in on the transition and the Wtp, covering topics ranging from AI, IT and communication to buy-outs and investment dilemmas.

The vision of the consultants

This event is by invitation only.

Robert Rothman (partner at Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd LLP) offers additional expert commentary. Sustainability in 2026: American opposition, European hesitation

Now that many funds are in good financial shape, a collective value transfer to an insured solution (‘buy-out’) is an attractive alternative. However, between the moment of selecting the best solution and its actual implementation, market developments can have a significant impact on pension levels, especially in times of geopolitical instability. This uncertainty can, however, be greatly reduced.
Speakers: Jasper van den Bosch, Transactionmanager Buy-Outs, Zwitserleven and Ruud van Doorn, Director Pension Risk Transfer, Zwitserleven
Sustainable investing is under serious pressure in the US. The EU wants to continue with sustainability, but with simpler and more effective rules. What is actually happening in the US and what are the practical consequences for European investors?
Speaker: Kristof Woutters, Global Head of Pension & Insurance Relations, Head of Dutch Branch, Candriam

Insurance options after the transition

Insight into the European options market

When all pension funds have transitioned and are implementing Wtp regulations by the 1st of January 2028, pension entitlements will in principle be variable. What insurance needs will a fund still have for its participants? What guarantees are desirable? A forecast with initial thoughts and possible solutions.
Speaker: Lennaert van Anken, Director of Pension Buy-outs, Achmea
In contrast to Dutch pension funds, many European institutional investors use options for protection within a traditional “long only” equity portfolio. The session provides an overview of the European options market and offers insight into costs and transparency.
Speaker: Peter James, Institutional Derivatives Sales, Optiver

Reducing costs in the Wtp: from compliance to efficiency
The Wtp transition had a clear ambition: lower implementation costs through simplification, economies of scale and standardisation. That promise has not yet been fulfilled, partly due to the many exceptions in pension schemes. However, targeted simplification, combined with technological developments such as AI and Cloud, can still ensure future-proof benefit administration after the transition: more efficient, scalable and better manageable.
Speaker: Wouter Boeser, Director, Keylane

Time for Europe to shine
Europe is planning massive investments in domestic production, energy, and defense. European equities remain attractively valued, creating a rare window of opportunity for investors. With political and economic momentum shifting toward greater European self-sufficiency, which geopolitical scenario’s should investors take into account and how does a bigger focus on Europe affect their portfolio?
Speaker: Hilde Jenssen, Head of Fundamental Equities , Nordea Asset Management
